Peptide Mass Fingerprinting

The simplest and quickest method of identifying a protein by mass spectrometry is by peptide mass fingerprinting (PMF). The sample is digested with a protease such as trypsin and the resulting proteolytic peptides analysed by MS. The masses of the peptides obtained are used to interrogate a database of known proteins and the identity of the protein is determined.

Samples are processed using the QSTAR XL mass spectrometer running with the oMALDI ionisation source or with the Voyager DE STR.

Registered users can book the QSTAR by clicking here, and book the Voyager here.
