The
biomedical node of the Australian
Proteome Analysis Facility (APAF)
was established at the University of Sydney during 2003
as a result of a Major National Research Facility (MNRF)
grant from the Australian Commonwealth Government through
the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST)
of $16.25M made to Macquarie University. $1.8M has been
provided to establish the biomedical node at the University
of Sydney with a generous commitment of $500K from the
university itself.
APAF has now expanded from its base at Macquarie University
to a number of specialised nodes at the University
of Sydney, University
of New South Wales,
and TGR
BioSciences,
in Adelaide, South Australia. Each node has specialist
technology
and the four nodes have a high degree of synergy. Together
the nodes offer the Australian scientific community a
wide range of proteomics services.

The
biomedical node at the University of Sydney is housed
within the School
of Molecular & Microbial Biosciences
and
draws upon expertise
from the School in proteomics and protein structural analysis.
